Alan McCoy has been birding in the Spokane area for 40 years. Most of that bird watching is on his five acre home site where he built a small pond and plants shrubs and flowers to attract birds, bugs and butterflies.

Please let Jim and Bea know that you are coming and whether you will need binoculars. We will be walking on a fairly level, paved trail for about 2 miles roundtrip. Restrooms are available, but bring your own water and snacks, if needed.

Mike Munts, Wildlife Biologist at the Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge in Stevens and Pend Oreille counties, will share information about the life cycles of three species of chickadees – Black-capped, Mountain, and Chestnut-backed – and three species of nuthatches – Red-breasted, White-breasted, and Pygmy – that inhabit the refuge.

Spokane Audubon Society has a new conservation partnership with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW)-managed Sherman Creek Wildlife Area. We are committed to providing data to monitor habitat work on the wildlife area.
We’re seeking volunteers to do point count bird surveys on two transects three times during the breeding bird season in June and July of each year. We will have a training on the morning of May 4, 2024, at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge for interested birders who would like to boost their survey skills.
