Just north of the town of Reardan in Lincoln County, about 30 miles west of Spokane, this area is on the Great Washington State Birding Trail because it attracts fall and spring migrant birds with its 80-acre lake, alkaline mudflats, grasslands and channeled scablands. From the south side parking lot we’ll walk on a flat, paved, wheelchair accessible trail about a quarter mile to a viewing blind where we’ll dedicate an engraved rock in memory of long-time Audubon member Jim Acton whose bird species data collection here helped secure this public place decades ago. Beginners are welcome to this brief, family friendly outing to see waterfowl, raptors, and other birds.
