Let's Go Birding Together!

  • Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge 26010 South Smith Road Cheney, WA, 99004 United States (map)

Join us for a morning of birding with Pride!! Led by Spokane Audubon volunteer birder Emily Stark, this hike around Turnbull National Wildlife Preserve serves as an opportunity for people of all identities (and birding experience levels!) to come together to enjoy nature in a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming environment.

Let’s Go Birding Together is a program that intentionally invites members of the LGBTQ+ community to explore the world of birds and birding. Launched by the National Audubon Society in 2016, these birding walks offer an environment where everyone can experience the joy of the outdoors without fear for their safety or concerns about being accepted. The trail we will be hiking is about 1.7 miles, mostly flat but also mostly unpaved. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing, and take heat and bugs into account. There are bathrooms on site, but depending on where we are on the trail, it can be a bit of a walk to get there—it’s best to use the bathroom prior to the start of the hike.

Please bring your own binoculars if you have them, but we will have a few pairs for loan.
