Class: Beginning Birding and Getting the Most From Merlin and EBird

  • Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge 26010 South Smith Road Cheney, WA, 99004 United States (map)

This is a class about how to use the popular electronic birding tools Merlin and eBird effectively and responsibly. Created by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, both play an increasingly prevalent role in the modern birding scene. eBird is a citizen science project designed to allow anyone to record and share their sightings to a broad audience online, while simultaneously providing scientific insight. Merlin uses the information provided by eBird to aid in both visual and auditory identification. Both tools can be very valuable tools for birding when used correctly.

This class will be a combination of classroom instruction and field time so you can start using your new skills right away.

Cost: Free for current members of Spokane Audubon Society / $20 for non-members
