Little Spokane River Paddle & Birding

  • St. George's Put-In Waikiki Road Spokane, WA (map)

Join experienced kayaker and birder Carrie Dugovic on a combined canoe/kayak and birding trip that offers a unique opportunity to view birds from the water.  This will be an approximately four-hour canoe/kayak on the Little Spokane River from the St. George’s put-in to the 9-mile takeout. We will coordinate and use our vehicles to shuttle the attendees and boats between the put-in and the take-out.

Attendees should be experienced boaters on flat water or slow-moving rivers.  There are a few small rapids to be aware of as well as currents that can pull you into a strainer or bushes. Attendees must provide their own kayaks. Personal flotation devices required.

In terms of birding experience, this trip is suitable for all levels of birders. The habitat is riparian woodlands, and we expect (hope) to see Common Merganser, Wood Duck, Mallard, Spotted Sandpiper, Cedar Waxwing, Yellow Warbler, Willow Flycatcher, Gray Catbird, Song Sparrow, Bullock’s Oriole, Great-blue Heron, Bald Eagle, Red-tailed Hawk and Osprey. Moose are also possible.

Please bring your Discover Pass, snacks, water, dry bag for binoculars and camera if desired, hat and sunscreen. No dogs allowed.

We will meet at 8:00am at the St. George’s Put-in (https://goo.gl/maps/FtA6U6MkZfPWRJzs9).

Registration is required by June 30, 2026, and there is a limit of 15 participants. To register, please contact Carrie Dugovic by email at carrie.dugovic@gmail.com.
