Hummingbirds

Today we will talk about humming birds. Their hearts beat about 1200 beats per minute.  They can breathe up to 250 times per minute.

At nighttime thier hearts rate gets slower so they can conserve energy , its stays under 250. This resting state is called torpor.

They have a higher risk of heart attacks than other birds, because of how thier heart works. So if you see a humming birds try not to make loud noises since flying friends can have heart attacks when scared.

Here's some fun facts about this flying friend

  • they are the only bird that can fly backwards

  • they have weak legs so they dont hop only perch and shuffle

  • they have a silly tongue that has grooves and is hair like and they use that to get nectar

  • they enjoy snacking on spiders and other bugs for protein

I’m going to set up humming bird feeders in my yard and hopefully make friends with them.
