Palisades Park Sunday, October 12th 9 am - 11 am

Located just outside of Spokane, Palisades Park boasts a variety of birds, interesting geology, and views of the city. This mostly flat walk will be geared towards beginners and people who are bird-curious. Total walking distance will be approximately two miles but participants are welcome to leave early. Limited to 8 participants. We’ll meet at the parking lot at the intersection of Greenwood Road and Rimrock Drive. Ample parking, NO restroom available, no pass required. Contact Shenandoah at conservation@spokaneaudubon.org for more information.

Thorpe property survey October 13th 9:30 am – 11:30 am

We will be conducting a second bird survey of the Thorpe property to collect more data to hopefully save the area from development. The Thorpe property is located in the southwestern part of Spokane. The survey will take place from a dirt road with some uphill portions and uneven terrain. Novice birders and bird curious people are welcome. Parking is very limited. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Shenandoah to sign up at conservation@spokaneaudubon.org.

Fall Fest at Finch Arboretum October 18th

Come visit us at the Finch Arboretum’s annual Fall Fest! In addition to our maps of local birding areas and other bird related information, we’ll have several examples of inexpensive and effective window treatments that help decrease or eliminate the number of birds flying into windows. A limited number of samples will be available.

Christmas Bird Count

It’s not too early to start thinking about the 2025 Christmas Bird Count! The Cheney count will be on Sunday December 14, 2025 and the Spokane count will be on Saturday January 3, 2026. For more information: https://www.audubonspokane.org/christmas-bird-count.

Volunteer Bird Walk leaders needed!

If you are ready to share your passion and excitement about birds with other people, we invite you to consider leading a bird walk. A passion for birds, a welcoming personality, and a knack for communicating with people of different backgrounds are more important than being a bird expert. We’ll help you plan a trip and provide you with the tools needed to lead a successful trip. If you are interested in learning more, even if you aren’t sure if you’re enough of an “expert” to pull this off, please contact Shenandoah at conservation@spokaneaudubon.org.
