Because, glass can reflect thier surroundings and they can think its a pathway. Than they bump thier little head on the door and possibly get injured!!!
Some boy birds may try to fight another bird but it's actually thier reflection and they can get really hurt by fighting glass.

You can get feather safe window stickers to make it look like its not a pathway.
You can install screens in front to help birds not get hurt
You can also get a special UV film that birds can see but humans cannot.
Also keep feeders away from the glass , even though you might want to watch your flying friends eat , it's not super safe for them.
